520 West 28th Street, known simply as 520 West 28th or also as the Zaha Hadid Building, is a building located in New York City. Designed by architect Zaha Hadid, it was her first residential building in New York City and one of her last projects before her death. The building which is located along the High Line, has been constructed since 2014 and opened June 2017. Zaha Hadid’s international work is largely defined by graceful curves inspired by nature. She brings this sensibility to 520 West 28th, marking a dramatic shift from the hard angles that dominate standard residential architecture. The building’s sleek, handcrafted metal façade is guided by a continuous line, which winds its way skyward. These dynamic curves create a distinctive chevron pattern that spans interlaced levels, maximizing privacy and security between residences. As the chevron rises from the ground, its folds create a multi-level design that connects the exteriors and interiors of the residences in a single movement. The result is a vertical landscape located directly on the High Line, encompassing 39 unique residences.
