The love of the people of Abruzzo for sheep meat certainly does not stop with sheep. Goat is also a very popular second course, particularly in Nereto, a small town in the heart of the Val Vibrata in the province of Teramo.
Nereto’s goat is an agricultural and food specialty of the territory of the municipalities of Nereto, Torano Nuovo, Corropoli, Controguerra, Sant’Omero, Ancarano and Colonnella, all in the province of Teramo. The dish, with amber red meat, is presented with tomato sauce accompanied by fried red peppers. There is also a recipe for "turkey alla neretese". It requires 4 hours including the (long) cooking time.
Taste it at its best by following the seasonality of peppers which coincidentally, from Easter to September, corresponds to the ideal period for outdoor lunches.
