Nationalmuseet (National Museum)
Housed in a 17th-century royal mansion, the National Museum is the place to visit for Viking history and ancient Danish treasures. Permanent collections tell the history of the country from the Ice Age to the year 2000, showing off ancient Egyptian, Greek and Italian acquisitions and highlighting the lifestyle of the indigenous population. Leading exhibits include the 3000-year-old Sun Chariot and the remains of the Huldremose Woman believed to date back to the lst century AD. There are dedicated toy and coin exhibits too and a show apartment in what was once an 18th century royal palace. Free guided tours in English take place daily in summer.
