The Mycenaean Tomb of Poros is one of the most important archaeological discoveries on the island of Kefalonia. It was discovered in the 1990s by the famous archaeologist Yer. Metaxas and is located near Tzannata. It is the largest and most well-preserved Mycenaean tomb on the island, with a diameter of 6.8 meters and a height of 3.95 meters.The tomb was built on top of an earlier, smaller tomb, which collapsed for unknown causes in 1350 BC. The stones of this earlier tomb are still visible today, incorporated into the present structure.Inside the tomb, several urns dating back to the 12th century B.C. were found, as well as ceramic objects, jewelry and representations. An ossuary was also discovered near the tomb, where the bones of 72 men were found and where other archaeological finds were stored.This tomb represents an important piece in understanding the ancient history and culture of the island of Kefalonia and Mycenaean culture in general.
