MUVIS – Wine and Food Science Museum

The Museum of Wine and Food Science of Castiglione in Teverina, is located in a vast area between the Tiber River and Lake Bolsena, where the Teverina Wine Route runs. In this winery, Count Romolo Vaselli (1898 – 1967) started a quality wine production since 1942, after having bought it from Count Luigi Vannicelli Casoni. The wines in particular, alongside sparkling wine, vermouth, vinegar, with Orvieto and full-bodied and savoury table reds, successfully imposed the VASELLI brand on the domestic and foreign markets until 1994, when the winery ceased all activity. Since then the local wine-growing and winemaking has developed and enriched itself with other cellars and other prestigious wines, renewing the splendour of the Etruscan and Roman tradition, which so many vestiges have left on our territory. Today the winery is MUSEUM: it collects testimonies and finds of our rural civilization; work, traditions and devotions; country cultures and agricultural crops. The protagonist is wine: in art, history, economy, human relations.
