The collection of the Museum of the Risorgimento and Resistance consists of documents and historical relics of local and national importance, as well as period illustrations, uniforms, weapons, military banners and flags. Of particular importance are the memorabilia linked to the company of the Bersaglieri del Po, a military unit composed of volunteers from Ferrara who participated in the first war of independence. The dating of the preserved relics starts from the 1848 uprisings and reaches the Second World War. The section on the Resistance documents the years from 1919 to 1945.
The museum also houses a statue of Vittorio Emanuele II of Savoy; this statue was, together with the Allegory of Ferrara, now located on the external facade of the museum, a single monument originally located in front of the cathedral of San Giorgio. The museum exhibits also include the remains of the Austrian fortress of Ferrara.
