The Museum of Art and Science in Milan, a stone’s throw from Castello Sforzesco, was founded in 1990 by the German physicist Gottfried Matthaes, a keen scientist and passionate art collector.
The Museum houses an educational path on the recognition of authenticity in art and antiques that makes it unique in its kind. Each section deals with a fundamental theme, from painting on canvas and wood to excavated pottery, from antique furniture to amber and ivory. The itinerary culminates in the tapestry room where it is possible to admire carpets and tapestries of different workmanship and origin. All sections are equipped with test stations, microscope stations and magnifying glasses to teach you how to recognize the characteristics of authenticity.
The Museum permanently hosts important collections of Buddhist Art (with numerous and remarkable pieces from Thailand, Burma, China and Japan) and African Art (one of the major Italian exhibitions with over 500 objects of high historical-artistic value from different ethnic groups in Black Africa). Finally there is a didactic section dedicated to Leonardo.
A Museum with a strong internationality with explanatory panels in six languages.
