With nearly 150,000 visitors a year, the Musée d’Aquitaine presents the history of Bordeaux and its region, from prehistory to the present day, through its prestigious collections of archaeology, history and regional and non-European ethnography.
"Museum of Civilization", also presents, every year, several temporary exhibitions exploring the themes of history and world cultures. Finally, it offers the public a cultural program: series of conferences, screenings, round tables, guided tours, concerts, meetings with foreign communities, and educational workshops.
In this place, where we are greeted by so many celebrities, we find the most illustrious of our people, who nevertheless confessed that "all the glory he retained of his life was that of having lived it in peace".
We certainly recognize the writer and philosopher Michel de Montaigne, whose tomb is a marvel in the rooms devoted to 16th century Bordeaux.
We must remember that this place has seen generations of students since it was the seat of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of Bordeaux. Since its opening in 1987, it is possible to discover everything that makes up the diversity and prosperity of Aquitaine; from the shepherds of the Pyrenees to the wine growers of the Médoc; from the oyster farms of the Arcachon basin to the oysters of the Landes. On a surface of 3000 m2, we find the first man of Aquitaine, but also Eleanor of Aquitaine, the Black Prince, Montaigne, Tourny…
