The MMM Ripa museum is located inside Bruneck Castle. The museum takes its name from the Tibetan ri, which means mountain, and pa, which means man, thus offering itself as a place of meeting and cultural exchange between the local population and those from other mountain regions of the world. Messner also wanted to create a point of information and deepening on the problems related to the relationship between alpine culture and urban culture, mountain agriculture and tourism.
The restoration work on the castle was carried out with the help of EM2 Architekten and provided for the restoration of the walls and the elimination of non-historical superfetations, while emphasis and legibility was given to the past and the signs left by the passage of time. The extension buildings in the entrance area were constructed of wood in such a way as to distinguish modern intervention from ancient elements.
