Montefiore dell’Aso

The historical center is well preserved. there are still considerable stretches of walls with doors and six towers dating back to the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. From the Belvedere De Carolis you enter the historical center and you reach Piazza della Repubblica, dominated by the Collegiate of S. Lucia, rebuilt in neoclassical style. In the square S. Francesco s´incontra the church dedicated to the saint, built between 1247 and 1303, and the annexed convent. Inside the convent was inaugurated in October 2006 the New Museum Complex of San Francesco. In the conventual complex, the Franciscan spaces have been rearranged and now house the Carlo Crivelli Hall, the Giancarlo Basili Centre for Scenographic Documentation, the Adolfo de Carolis Museum, the Museum of Rural Life, and the Domenico Cantatore Collection. In the village there are also many buildings of the 17th and 18th centuries; just outside the center stands the church of S. Filippo Neri. Near the church of S. Filippo there is the church of Corpus Domini with the annexed monastery. To be mentioned, moreover, three extra-urban churches included in the territory of Montefiore dell’Aso: along the provincial road that leads to Carassai, the delightful country church of S. Maria delle Grazie and the church of S. Maria della Fede; along the road that leads to Campofilone rises the church of S. Giovanni Battista. Among the events that take place in Montefiore dell’Aso during the year we mention: the Carnival (February), Symphonies of Cinema, a film festival accompanied by live concerts (July), the Palio delle Botti in August and the International Polyphonic Festival, which hosts national and international choirs (autumn).
