On the eastern side of the Promontory, outside the town, stands the oldest church of Monemvasia, പ്രതിഷ്ഠ Agia Sofia (wisdom of God). The location is ഗംഭീരമായ, ഒരു കോസി റോക്ക് മേൽനോട്ടം the sea, from which the view വരെയാണ് over the entire ചുറ്റുമുള്ള പ്രദേശത്തിന്റെ. The church of Agia Sofia was built in the XII നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ, at the behest of the emperor Andronicus II, who dedicated it to the Virgin Mary, and later, under the വെനീസിലെ മേധാവിത്വം, it was രൂപാന്തരപ്പെടുന്നു ഒരു കത്തോലിക്കാ ആശ്രമം, and consecrated to the Wisdom of God, taking the name which it still holds ഇന്ന് of Agia Sofia.
