Monastery of Cimiez – Nice

The Monastery of Cimiez was founded by the Benedictines in the 8th century on the hills of Nice. The building includes the church of "Our Lady of the Assumption" (15th century) and the Franciscan Museum which illustrates the life of the Franciscans in Nice from the 13th century onwards. The magnificent garden surrounding the religious building is the former garden of the monks. The painters Henri Matisse and Raoul Dufy, as well as the Nobel Prize winner for literature du Gard, are buried here.
