The Monastery of Theotokou Atrou is the oldest monastery on the island, dating before 1264. It is located on the mountain of the same name, north of Poros, 550 meters above sea level. The road to the monastery is unpaved and starts from the village of Riva and continues for more than 4 km. It is not easy to travel and the use of a jeep is recommended, but it offers spectacular views of Poros and the surrounding vegetation. The monastery has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, and today only the entrance courtyard and the 10-meter-high medieval tower can be seen. In the past, Saint Klimis was an ascetic and egumen (abbot) in the monastery. The monastery’s feast day is celebrated on September 8 (the birth of the Virgin).
