Mexico | Cathedral of Oaxaca

The Cathedral of Oaxaca is located on the north side of the zócalo in front of the Alameda de León. Construction of the Catedral began in 1535. It is built of green stone in the Baroque style with a basilical ground plan. The Catholic cathedral is richly decorated on the interior and features an ornately carved exterior.The architecture of the churches, cathedral, convents and monasteries in Oaxaca is a collision between pre-Hispanic influences and the ideas of the Spanish and the Dominicans.
