Sung since ancient times in the verses of many poets, Meissen has always had a strong fascination because of its particular position. In fact, the town stands on the Burgberg, a fortress lapped by three rivers (the Elbe, the Triebisch and the Meisa) and on which the counts of the brand, the bishops and the counts of the town decided in ancient times to erect their majestic residences. The coexistence of these three powers earned Burgberg the reputation as the "cradle" of Saxony.
In the centuries that followed, the Albrechtsburg was built, the first castle in German architectural history and a splendid artistic masterpiece, characterized by bold architectural lines and revolutionary solutions that still amaze visitors today.
