Baltimore is a port city, and its most characteristic areas are along the coast: Inner Harbor, Fells Point and Little Italy. In the interior of the city is the Mount Vernon district, where there are theaters, museums, universities but also nightclubs and shops. Particularly interesting to visit is the Walters Art Museum, which preserves works from all ages and from all over the world. The city of Baltimore was founded in 1729 by the family of the English counts of Baltimore, in the person of Cecil Calvert, second lord Baltimore and first governor of the colony of Maryland.
Due to its fortunate geographical position on the sea and its proximity to Washington and Boston, the city experienced rapid growth around its historic port, which is still strategic for U.S. trade today.
