Mamula is a circular islet in the Adriatic sea.It is an inhabited island with an old fortress. The island is called Lastavica (sparow), Slavic name, or Rondina, the Venetian one, but the more popular and known one is simply Mamula. Building of Mamula fortress was finished in 1853. The main reason to build a fort there was to stop, the enemy ships to enter into the Boka Bay.It was built by Austro-Hungarian general Lazar Mamula. The fort takes up about 90% of the island’s surface area.
