Macarons are typical French pastries, colourful and inviting with a very special history: they were imported from Italy (the name derives from the Italian "maccarone") and depopulated in France by Catherine De Medici until they became the favourite dessert of Marie Antoinette.
The fame of the macarons, however, began when, in 1862, the Pasticceria Ladurée was founded, specializing in these colourful and tasty creations that were to depopulate all over Europe.
