The main church of Locorotondo is the church of San Giorgio, built in the last years of the eighteenth century to replace two existing places of worship.
We are in the city center from where several streets that make up the core of the village. Built in neoclassical style, the church is easily recognizable for the relief of St. George the Martyr and two dragons placed at the top of the facade. Underneath are the statues of St. Peter and St. Paul.
Next to it stands the beautiful bell tower with four stone statues of the three Marys and Veronica, placed here after the dismemberment of the Polyptych of the Pietà of the ancient Mother Church. Over 35 metres high, the central dome was once covered with multicoloured glazed terracotta tiles.
The neoclassical sobriety of the architectural elements is accompanied by a Renaissance and Baroque figurative set. Inside, the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament contains 42 panels with scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
