Lappeenranta is a Finnish city of 72,678 inhabitants, located in the region of South Karelia. The city lies on the shores of Lake Saimaa in southeastern Finland, about 30 kilometers from the Russian border. Lappeenranta is the eleventh largest city in Finland in terms of size. In the city of Lappenranta you can admire the beautiful wooden cathedral, built in 1794, while in the summer months on the lake beach is set up the "Hiekkalinna", a kind of theme park with sand statues.
