The Rocca d’Anfo has a very long history: built in the fifteenth century with a dual purpose – defensive and guarding the border with today’s Trentino – and remodeled several times especially during the Napoleonic era, already during the First World War had lost its strategic function to the point of being used only as a warehouse and ammunition depot. After years of decay and neglect, about 10 years ago work began to reopen some parts, which can be visited with guides organized by appointment.
The Rocca d’Anfo is a grandiose building, made up of batteries, walls, towers, barracks: guided tours pass through some of the most important places, including the Venetian area near the lake, the accommodation of the Napoleonic part and the observatory. The museum set up by volunteers is very interesting. Finally, a special mention should be made of the stairs leading to the top of the fortress and the suggestive panoramic viewpoint of the Belvedere. Rocca d’Anfo, a truly unique monument set in an exceptional environmental context.
