Kapsali, is without doubt the most beautiful village in Kythera. From Chora the road descends steeply and all curves towards Kapsali, with the two twin bays separated by an isthmus and a crystal clear sea from which emerges the round rock that the locals call avgò, the egg. It marks the point from which Aphrodite would emerge, a legend that sparked a fierce dispute with Cyprus over the places of myth. On the edge of a precipice overlooking the sea stands the church of Agios Ioannis Theologos, with the cave where St. John would begin to write the Apocalypse.
