Kangra Fort is located in the outskirts of Kangra town, around 25 km from Palampur. The fort, built by Katoch kings of the Kangra state, is apparently the oldest and the largest in the Himalayas. It is situated on a steep rock in old Kangra and is strategically built on the confluence of Banganga and Patalganga rivers. It is spread across a circuit of around 4 km. The architecture of the fort is amazing and would surely be of interest to you if you like visiting and studying historical monuments. There are darwazas, temples, a mahal and a watchtower from where you get a bird’s-eye view of the whole area. Adjoining the fort is a museum managed by the royal family of Kangra that exhibits the history of the fort.
