Jewish Museum of Pitigliano is located in the Synagogue that was built in 1598, probably in the place chosen by the first Jews of Pitigliano for prayer. The building was damaged by bombing during the last World War. Currently restored, you can visit both the Synagogue (excluding Saturdays and Jewish holidays) and, in a suggestive path through rooms dug into the tuff, the testimonies of community life: the ritual bath of women, the cellar and butcher’s shop (wine and meat Kasher), the old dyeworks, the unleavened oven, a Museum of Jewish culture and the Jewish Cemetery.
On Jewish holidays it will be possible to visit the Synagogue from the matronery, while the rooms of the ancient Ghetto remain open.
