A true paradise of the Phlegraean Fields. The importance of this natural richness can be seen not only in its aesthetics, enchanting and magical, but also in its history. It is known, in fact, that the Phlegraean Fields are a den of archaeological findings and fragments of antiquity that make us remember where we come from. The islet has very ancient origins, already in the fourth century AD Emperor Constantine mentioned it in a document. In addition, here have been found various artifacts that would testify to the presence of a residential complex: Villa Lucullo, a wonderful complex that once belonged to Lucius Lucullus. It was here that Tiberius Claudius decided to stay during his last days of life. About the villa, Phaedrus wrote: “Quae monte summo posita Luculli manu prospectat Siculum et prospicit Tuscum mare…” – “ Posta sull’alto del colle dalla mano di Lucullo, affacciciata da un lato sulla Sicilia e dall’altro sul mare Tirreno”. In 1921, 22 fragments of sculptures were discovered and preserved in the National Museum of Naples.
The islet is located in the waters that bathe one of the most beautiful and quiet beaches of Campania: the Schiacchetiello. A small inlet between the tuff rocks, which is part of the marine reserve of the regional park of Campi Flegrei. Here è you can spend time in total relaxation, especially if you are not lovers of the crowd!
The name "Pennata" è is already recurring in a document of Emperor Constantine of the fourth century AD.
