Although Irma Stern was one of South Africa’s more prolific artists, the Irma Stern Museum isn’t heaving with tourists. Set inside the artist’s former home and studio outside of the Cape Town CBD, the museum is fairly off the beaten track. The space is quiet and intimate, with a bright interior filled with Stern’s paintings and furniture. The museum is fairly small and manageable, so you won’t be traipsing around for hours keeping your eyes peeled for the first empty seat you spot. If you have the time, don’t forget to explore the tranquil garden.
