San Candido is the main place of the homonymous municipality and has been mentioned for the first time in 769. The village is located at 1,175 m asl and has got about 2,000 inhabitants. No matter if you seek culture, nature, adventure or relaxation, the village at the foot of the Monte Baranci mountain range is worth a visit the whole year round.
In winter we highly recommend you a day on the slopes of the Three Peaks Dolomites ski carousel, to which also the slopes of Monte Baranci belong to. Via Versciaco, however, you reach the top of the Monte Elmo skiing area. And after an adventuresome day on the slopes you can relax in the Acquafun adventure pool. What you also shouldn’t miss is a visit to the Collegiata di San Candido, as well as the Dolomythos museum, providing an insight into the development of the Dolomites, Unesco World Heritage Site.
A walk across the pedestrian zone of San Candido, a coffee at Piazza S. Michele, Balloon Festival or Snow sculpture festival in January, there is no boredom at all. In summer, the surroundings provide numerous possibilities for hiking and cycling: Alta Via delle Dolomiti or Stoneman Trail, there is something for every taste and difficulty level.
