Located in Mitzpe Ramon, a town in the Negev desert, is the Ramon Crater, or, as it is called in Hebrew, Makhtesh Ramon. This is the largest makteshim (erosion crater) in the world, measuring 40 km (25 miles) in length and 10 km (6 miles) at its widest point. Visitors can tour the crater by Jeep, segway, or even helicopter, but hot air balloon flights offer the most spectacular views from above.
