Illegio, the village of the Mills

Among the mountains of Carnia, not far from Tolmezzo, the ancient village of Illegio is absolutely worth a visit for its shape, its position and the atmosphere that you can breathe among its narrow alleys and its small squares. Among the perfectly restored stone houses, the quiet streets and the unusual presence of a watercourse that gushes out in the heart of the village and runs along a street dotted with mills, the visitor will be enchanted by the pleasant perspectives and the many picturesque corners. From Illegio a magnificent walk (40 minutes) leads to the dominant Pieve di San Floriano (9th century) from which you can enjoy a 360 degree view over the valley and the surrounding mountains. The village is perfectly preserved and also houses the unsuspected Casa delle Esposizioni (House of Exhibitions) where very interesting exhibitions are held.
