The opening of the "Casa dei puattini di Otello Sarzi" (Otello Sarzi’s House of Puppets) makes it possible to continue the arrangement of the archive made up of paper documents, photos, videos (these materials will soon be available online as well), puppets and scenes, as well as the enhancement of these materials still rich in potential, traces of research, interpretations that are constantly renewed in the encounter with the different provocations of contemporary culture.
In 2012 an agreement was signed between the Fondazione Famiglia Sarzi, the Province of Reggio Emilia and the Department of Schools of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia to carry out the museum project of the "Casa dei puattini di Otello Sarzi" and offer:
educational and playful paths for children,
and to young people and adults testimonies, documents, itineraries explored and to be explored, provocations and theatrical artistic suggestions.
Otello Sarzi has bequeathed to the community of Reggio Emilia a very rich collection of puppets and marionettes, art objects and inventions, the result of his inexhaustible imagination. In addition to the experimental and traditional theatre, the museum also offers scenes from shows inspired by the fairy tales that characterized the production of Otello Sarzi and his family.
The museum’s vocation is to provide a place that will illustrate past and present, accompany the projection into the future of the glorious figure theatre and stimulate visitors of all ages to participate, experiment, interact and return.
