The church of Saint Catherine (or L’église Sainte-Catherine, in French) is the main monument of Honfleur, the attraction not to be missed even if you only spend a few hours in town.
Built in the 15th century to replace a stone church destroyed during the Hundred Years’ War, the church of Saint Catherine was built entirely of wood, gathered from the nearby forest.
Its original double-hulled boat shape is due to its excellent knowledge of Honfleur’s shipbuilding. Thus, St Catherine’s Church is the largest wooden church in all of France.
