High Knoll Fort was built by the British around 1790 to protect the island from possible French, Spanish and Dutch attacks. Today it has been restored and opened to the public as a historical site.To visit High Knoll Fort, you will have to reach the hill east of Jamestown, where the fortification is located. The road to the fort is steep and winding, but the panoramic view of the island and Jamestown Harbor is spectacular.Inside the fort you can tour the ancient rooms, corridors and courtyards, as well as a collection of weapons and historical objects. There are also some interactive exhibits that tell the story of the island and the fort.I recommend that you set aside at least an hour to visit High Knoll Fort so that you have time to explore all the rooms and take in the panoramic view of the island.
