If you have a soft spot for architecture, Helsinki’s main train station is a must. Completed in 1919, it was designed by Eliel Saarinen, the greatest exponent of the national Romantic movement, and is considered the most representative work of this style.
Helsinki Station is mainly built of Finnish granite, and features a clock tower and two statues of giants holding two spherical lamps, lit at night and positioned on either side of the main entrance. The station is used by about 200,000 passengers per day, making it the most visited building in Finland.
