Haram el-Sharif or Temple Mount

Haram el-Sharif or Temple Mount It is a large square – Mosque esplanade – where the Dome of the Rock, a golden dome representing one of the first examples of Islamic architecture, and the al-Aqsa Mosque stand. It is the third most sacred site in the Islamic world after the Ka’ba in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia. Both the dome and mosque were built in the 8th century by Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwân.
