On the Platano river there is an ancient stone bridge which is commonly called Ponte di Annibale (Hannibal’s Bridge), because of the tradition that says it was built by Hannibal on his way down to the South. It is also known as the Devil’s Bridge and marks the border between Campania and Basilicata. A bridge to cross history, a journey of 25 metres (length of the bridge) to reach between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC, the time of Hannibal and his famous elephants. The large staggered tufa boulders, which together with a single vault with two round arches, ensure greater stability, with respect to floods and earthquakes.The bridge, one of the oldest on Italian soil is 1.45 meters wide, 11 meters high and about 25 meters long.
