Gulf of Naples: Monastery of San Paolo

In the highest part of the hill of the Desert of Sant’Agata sui due Golfi, you can capture the beauty of the Gulfs of Naples and Salerno with a single glance. To enjoy one of the most famous views of the Sorrento peninsula, just climb up the tower of the monastery.the whole structure, of large dimensions, was built in 1679 by the Discalced Teresian Carmelite Fathers.in 1867 it was restored by Father Ludovico da Casoria who founded the order of the Bigi friars. In the ’70s of the past century, however, the order of the monks was dissolved by a papal decree and the property of the monumental complex passed to the Benedictine cloistered nuns. The Belvedere del Deserto for centuries has enchanted generations of tourists such as Goethe, Nietzche, Wagner.
