Girelle alla sardella

The "girelle alla sardella" are soft rolls of bread dough, seasoned with a typical product of Calabria: pilchard. Also known as rosamarina or neonata, pilchard is a preserve based on whitebait which is macerated in salt for a period and then mixed with spicy or sweet red pepper, which gives the pilchard a characteristic reddish colour. The "girelle alla sardella" are ideal as an appetizer or to enrich your bread basket.
