A legend had prophesied the birth of the Gates of the Underworld: this is the name given to a chasm created in the city of Batagai, in Siberia. It opened a quarter of a century ago, with much smaller dimensions than today; in fact, today it is more than one hundred meters deep and two kilometers long. Geologists confirm that its formation is linked to climate change and that its depth will continue to increase, at a rate of 18 meters per year.
