Fountain of the Siren in Naples

Fountain of the Siren – built in the mid-nineteenth century in the gardens in front of the old station in Piazza Garibaldi and put into operation in 1869. Some sources indicate Francesco Jerace as the builder, while others Onofrio Buccino. The fountain was then moved to its present location in 1924. The fountain consists of a large circular basin, with a rock in the centre on which rest four marine animals (a horse, a lion, a dolphin and a turtle) supporting the mermaid with a lyre in her right hand.
