Forio d’Ischia

orio d’Ischia is the territorially largest municipality on the island of Ischia with its 12.9 square kilometers. A municipality that sees different scenarios and is steeped in history: famous are numerous watchtowers that allowed defense from attacks from the sea among which the most famous is ‘Il Torrione’. The historic center of Forio that corresponds to the shopping center is formed by numerous narrow streets that allow you to breathe a special air, as if you were going back in time. Among the most beautiful churches in Forio is that of St. Francis of Assisi with the ancient convent that is now the seat of the town hall, the famous Basilica of San Vito patron saint of the municipality of Forio and going through the entire historic center you reach the Church of Soccorso, a scenic church positioned on a terrace overlooking the sea where you can enjoy the beautiful colors of sunsets in Forio. Entering the hilly area of Forio, one can find two of the most important and well-kept Mediterranean gardens on the island, which are the ‘Giardini la Mortella’ and the ‘Giardini Ravino’ that boast plants from several parts of the world. Forio d’Ischia is also synonymous with seaside vacations with wide beaches such as Chiaia and San Francesco until you get to the beautiful Sorgeto Bay, a real jewel immersed in nature: rock pools formed naturally over time from which thermal water flows all year round.
