Home to 150 species of plants and herds of wild caribou, Fogo Island is the largest of the islands off Newfoundland, Canada. Its archipelago is so remote that it has its own time zone and is known as one of the mythical four corners of the world, at the edge of the earth. Here the Norwegian architectural firm Saunders designed a five-star hotel, the Fogo Island Inn, where innovation and tradition come together: "We built the Inn in the same way a bird would lovingly build its nest with the utmost care for each piece of straw. In the furniture and quilts you can feel the presence of the people who made them, the influence of their ancestors and the hand of our designers".
