The city is kindly called “Floripa” by everyone in Brazil. The tropical climate, stunning coastline, very exotic landscapes, friendly people and a relaxed lifestyle characteristics of this hot spot are much appreciated by the Brazilians. The island is divided into five areas, north, east, central, south and west. In the north of the island there are several beaches such as Canasvieiras Beach, Ingleses Beach (it means English) and Jurere Beach, this part of the island is highly develope and very urbanized. The Jurere Beach is very famous after by celebrities in particular the Brazilian soap opera stars of many with their own house on this beach. In the east you can find the beautiful beaches of the Galheta, Mole and Joaquina. These beaches are surrounded by large lush green hills and good waves for surfing. In the central part of the island, there is the Lagoa da Conceição which is a large lagoon surrounded by sand dunes. Here there are the best restaurants and bars in the region. In the south there are also excellent and deserted beaches especially southeast of Campeche such as Armação, Lagoinha do Leste and Naufragados. Ribeirão da Ilha looks very well preserved and Azorean fishing villages Portuguese architecture with a colorful and very friendly people. Access is difficult for a small road to the seaside but great views. There are some picturesque towns southwest of Florianopolis. This area is great for diving, snorkeling, fishing or just relaxing in one of the wonderful beaches. Florianopolis has a International Airport just 20 kms (13 miles) from the city centre.
