Fiano di Avellino DOCG

Completely surrounded by vineyards, the province of Avellino offers internationally renowned wines such as Greco di Tufo, Taurasi and Fiano. The latter takes its name from the grape variety of the same name, which the Latins called Vitis apiana, thanks to the bees, which are particularly fond of the sweetness of these grapes. This wine, which was highly appreciated as early as the Middle Ages, has a millennial origin. In the register of Frederick II of Swabia, who lived in the 13th century, an order for three "salme" of Fiano is noted. Even Charles of Anjou must have loved good wine, to the point of planting as many as 16,000 Fiano vines in his own royal vineyard. Its ampelographic matrix leads him to Hellenic varieties from the Magna Graecia period. The Wine produced from it was highly appreciated by Roman consuls and emperors and still enjoys a reputation as one of the best whites in Italy because of its structure and extraordinary finesse, and even on Sicilian soil it shows all its exuberance. Today it is the best-selling Italian white wine. Grape varieties – Minimum alcohol content – Aging and qualifications. Grape varieties: Fiano for a minimum of 85%; grapes from the Greco, Coda di Volpe bianco and Trebbiano toscano grape varieties, present in the vineyards on the estate, alone or in combination, up to a total maximum of 15%, may contribute to the production of this wine. Minimum total acidity: 5.0 g/l. Minimum total alcohol content by volume: 11.50% vol. Minimum non-reducing extract: 16.0 g/l. The controlled and guaranteed designation of origin "Fiano di Avellino" may be accompanied by the traditional term of classic origin "Apianum." Organoleptic characteristics. Color: more or less intense straw yellow. Smell: pleasant, intense, fine, characteristic. Taste: fresh, harmonious. Pairings and serving temperature Perfect as an aperitif, it finds excellent pairings with the finest fish dishes. It is best enjoyed at a temperature of 8°-10°C.
