Fantacinema is a very special exhibition-museum, inimitable in its kind, which allows you to immerse yourself in a sort of dream that excites young and old alike. The permanent exhibition is housed in the beautiful spaces of about 600 square meters on the ground floor of the first module of the Magazzini del Cotone at Porto Antico, renovated by architect Renzo Piano.
It houses three important private collections made available to the public. The Pittaluga collection contains magic lanterns, extremely rare projection slides and early filming and projection instruments. The Griffith collection is made up of rare original films – from Méliès to the fantastic and horror classics of silent films – on film or transferred onto computer, technical instruments for projection and editing from the post-war period to the present day. The Cineciak collection is made up of objects, fibreglass sculptures, original film costumes, posters, set photos from the 1920s (Nosferatu, Dracula, King Kong) to the present day (Star Wars, Batman, Harry Potter).
The exhibition design, based on the evocative power of the objects and on the involvement of the visitor, is signed by the architect Paola Fazio and by Maurizio Gregorini, in the role of Cultural Manager of the Municipality of Genoa.
Periodically, thematic exhibitions are set up in the 40-seat meeting room.
There is also a rich offer of rare and unobtainable gadgets dedicated to fantastic cinema.
