"Maman" by Louise Bourgeois is one of the most iconic pieces at the Guggenheim, this piece sits just outside the museum and, at nine metres high, towers over visitors. A giant spider made of bronze, marble and stainless steel, it was created in 1 and is one of Louise Bourgeois’ most ambitious projects. Made as a tribute to the artist’s mother, who was a weaver, it observes the protective nature of mothers, as the spider tries to protect the sack of eggs attached to its stomach.
