Andrea Doria is remembered as one of the most important members of the family, if not the most important. Upon his death, Montorsoli was commissioned to build the crypt for the captain, who was awarded the prestigious title of "Defensor" for his actions in protecting Christianity. The space was obtained below the altar of the church. To access it, you go down a white marble staircase, the same one that completely covers the room. In the centre is the tomb of the prince, a sarcophagus surmounted by two angels surrounding his effigy.
The white marble covers the walls of the crypt that still hosts Andrea Doria’s sepulchre.
