The Chapel of St. Augustine, in the castle, was built in the second half of the seventeenth century. It has an octagonal plan as well as the Sanctuary of Schiavonea. Above the marble altar, on the back wall, there is the triptych of the "Madonna delle Rose with St. Augustine and St. Anthony Abbot" (1872), a work of the master Domenico Morelli, the most famous Neapolitan 19th century artist and directly commissioned to the artist by Baron Luigi Compagna.
Recent restoration work has brought to light the frescoes by Girolamo Varna that adorn the vault of the dome and depict the heavenly and earthly churches. This work, this one, was made to cover by the will of the master Morelli almost certainly not to distract the viewer’s gaze from his triptych.
