The convent of St. Francis was probably founded before 1301, when the Minor Friars began the construction of the church. The convent keeps a rich collection of musical literature, while the ancient library boasts a collection of books from the 15th century. Still today the Minor Friars live in the convent, administer the church, offer spiritual help and host spiritual retreats. The cloister is one of the best acoustically equipped venues in Slovenia, and for several years now it has been the venue for numerous high-level musical events such as the Piranesi Musical Evenings and the Tartini Festival. The cloister leads to the convent’s picture gallery, where works by Venetian painters can be admired.
