Conques ,One of the favourite village of the French

Conques ranked 5th in the 2013 edition of the favourite village of the French people TV programme. Located at the confluence of two rivers, on a slope-shaped natural amphitheater near the Lot Valley, Conques offers a heritage rich in history, traditions and cultural life. At the end of the eighth century, the hermit Dadon chose this site to withdraw into solitude. Thus arose a Benedictine monastery with the Carolingian dynasty. With Saint Foy relics brought from Agen in 866, Conques became a pilgrimage center and a major step on the road to Saint Jacques de Compostela. The cult of the saint spread throughout Western Christendom and donations are increasing in favor of the abbey. The village, situated around its abbey, built in the tenth century, offers visitors many houses half-timbered facades and covered with stones. Its Romanesque Abbey-Church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
