Conques, a heritage of history and traditions

Located at the confluence of two rivers, on the slope shaped natural amphitheater near the Lot valley, Conques offers a heritage rich in history, traditions and cultural life. At the end of the eighth century, the hermit Dadon decided to withdraw this place into solitude. Thus, a Benedictine monastery with the Carolingian monastery was founded. With St. Foy relics brought from Agen in 866, Conques became a pilgrimage centre and an important step on the road to Santiago de Compostela. The cult of the saint spread in western Christendom and donations to increase in favor of the abbey. The village, which is built around its abbey, built in the tenth century, offers visitors many houses with half-timbered facades and covered with stones. The visitor will find places of culinary specialties and crafts in number.
